  • The disease is called influenza 
  • It was travelling at a deadly speed
  • Soldier's catched it easily because they had weak immune system’s
  • It was at a high death rate
  • The ship that went to Auckland early October was never on quarantine
  • Many people blamed it on the ship
  • The prime minister and his deputy were on board
  • Everyone was dying one after the other

  • Type A affect other species not human’s
  • If someone catch’s this disease their immune system will respond by creating antibodies
  • It is a very simple micro-organism
  • The next time they catch a flu their immune system will fight better because they have already fought it before.

  • Other flu viruses hit young and old people hard
  • In 1918 it became clear to everyone that the strain of the flu was not the common illness
  • 20-40 year people were dying within 24 hours
  • The illness was causing unusual symptoms
  • There was also pneumonia which caused cyanosis
  • Cyanosis is when your skin change’s colour because lack of oxygen in the blood

  • Back in 1918 there were no vaccines or medicine that could treat the complications from the flu.
  • The cause of the flu was unknown.
  • People were offered to breathe in a zinc sulphate gas.
  • They thought that the sulphate gas would prevent the flu from spreading.
  • The chamber’s were putting people at a high risk by going into close contact,
  • The joyful occasions undoubtedly resulted in more deaths from the flu.
  • Nation’s were devastated by war.
  • In just a few month’s their death toll was at least nine-thousand
  •  International air travel was spreading the disease much faster.
SYNTHESIS
My new understanding of the 1918 pandemic is
My understanding of the 1918 pandemic was a very bad thing that happened. But these people didn't know what it was caused by nether did they have a cure to this till a really long time. Also when almost the whole country was sick a lot of the doctor’s were overseas and this is something we are all experiencing right now we are all on lockdown with a sickness going all around the world which can relate to 2020’s pandemic and 1918’s pandemic, so we all know what’s happening with them can kinda seem like what’s happening with us today.
Task Description: For today's task we had to read a online book about 1918's pandemic. Then we had to write down some thing's that happen and in the end we had to write about our understanding of their pandemic.

  • Maori call a tattoo on the body or face ta moko
  • The tradition of tattooing is found across the pasific

  • It is a very special tattoo for Maori.
  • There is always a meaning behind the moko .
  • It is a treasure to the Maori people.
  • The sketching of it was found in 1784
  • The person who found it was named  Sydney Parkinson
Task Description: For this task I had to read a book about these people and what the moko meant to them. Then I had to write some facts down or things they said that interested me.
